Barry Mahal is a resourceful and results driven executive with outstanding vision, strategy and product innovation skills. Barry can best be described as an award-winning leader with a unique combination of technical, leadership and financial skills. His organizations have been recognized numerous times for excellence. During his tenure, Sea Ray won J.D. Powers & Associates Highest Customer Satisfaction Award for three consecutive years. At Herman Miller, he led the development of the Aeron Chair, which received the Business Week Design of the Decade Award. In addition, he was given the Plastics Consumer Design Product Award.
Comfortable in many environments, he has been with large and small publicly traded companies such as the Sea Ray division of the Brunswick Corporation and Herman Miller, medium size firms including the HON Company and Teledyne Brown Engineering, and smaller firms such as Britax Child Safety, Inc. and Shaw-Walker. As a result, he offers a strong blend of large company sophistication and discipline as well as a shirtsleeve mindset and entrepreneurial zeal associated with smaller firms. His approach allows him to thrive in challenging, high-growth and turnaround environments. Barry’s unique combination of skills in financial and market analysis, strategic planning and engineering enable him to streamline organizations and unlock value in brands, markets and businesses.
Over the past ten years, Barry built three global product development organizations. Under his leadership, his teams have executed product development initiatives that have produced over 100 new products that are generating in excess of $1 billion annually. Additionally, the savings in cost and materials for reengineered or upgraded products has freed up $12 million annually for reinvestment or profit. He has worked extensively in Europe and with Asian suppliers. Earlier in his career, he traveled and worked extensively in the Middle East as a systems engineer and held a Government Secret Clearance.
